The Outer Layer explained ...

SealSkinz socks and gloves are covered with a durable nylon outer layer. Nylon is virtually indestructible, with a tenacity of 50 g/tex against, for example cotton, 32 g/tex or wool, 15g/tex. It has excellent elastic recovery properties: 97% elastic recovery at 5% extension against cotton (47% recovery) and wool (88% recovery)

Nylon is seldom used for socks because it is non-absorbent. The moisture regain of about 4% compares with absorbent cotton (9%) and wool (17%). For most socks/gloves this would be a disadvantage, because the nylon would be sweaty and uncomfortable to wear next to the skin.

However in Sealskinz products, the nylon is not next to the skin, the inner sock and membrane layers lie between. As the outer layer it offers excellent protection to the membrane & dries out quickly.
