Sealskinz Field and Shooting Gloves

Find your feel on your rifle and choose a pair of our specialist field shooting gloves. Shooting gloves are durable and hard-wearing, offering the shooter both extra touch on the chosen rifle but also protection against the weather.

What gloves are best for shooting in cold conditions?

In cold weather, the best shooting gloves offer a blend of insulation, dexterity, and protection from the elements. Look out for gloves with a waterproof, breathable membrane, such as our Aquasealz® membrane, keeping external moisture like rain or dew out while sweat can escape. Insulating liners (wool blends, fleece, or technical fabrics) are also key, trapping warmth without bulk. The glove must retain enough flexibility so you can manipulate triggers, safety catches, and controls without losing tactile feedback. A fold-back finger design (as seen in our Broome model) helps balance warmth and waterproofing with trigger access.

How do shooting gloves affect grip?

Grip control is crucial in shooting, especially when conditions are wet or cold. Quality shooting gloves influence grip in a few ways:

  • High-friction palm materials (like suede leather or treated synthetics) help your hand maintain purchase on firearm grips and controls even when wet.
  • Precision fit and minimal bulk in critical zones, such as the thumb and index finger ensure that your fingers still feel the trigger, safety, and control surfaces with sensitivity. A glove that is too bulky or loose in those zones will reduce control.
  • Sweat and moisture control: by wicking away internal moisture, glove helps prevent your hand from becoming clammy, which can reduce grip.

Are waterproof gloves necessary for field shooting?

Yes, waterproof gloves can be highly advantageous for shooting, especially in wet or damp environments. When hunting or shooting outdoors, you may encounter wet conditions, and a non-waterproof glove will let moisture in, leading to cold, clammy hands and loss of control. Waterproof gloves with a reliable membrane ensure that external moisture is kept out while still allowing sweat to escape, maintaining hand comfort and sensory control. However, it’s also worth noting that sometimes lighter, non-waterproof shooting gloves might be preferred in warmer or drier conditions for extra dexterity or lower bulk. The key is matching glove performance to environment. In variable, wet, or uncertain conditions, having waterproof protection gives you confidence without needing to change gloves mid-hunt or mid-shoot.
