Sealskinz Cold Weather Waterproof Socks

It is important to keep your feet dry, warm and protected when outdoors. Our cold weather socks range just does this. Waterproof options that are durable and available in both knee and mid-length.

How do cold-weather socks keep feet warm?

Cold-weather waterproof socks from our collection stay warm by combining insulation, waterproofing, breathability and wind protection. Our waterproof socks use a three-layer construction: a durable outer shell, our Aquasealz™ waterproof membrane, and a soft inner liner: often with a merino wool blend that traps warm air close to the skin. The merino wool inner layer retains heat and remains effective even if damp, while the waterproof membrane blocks cold, wet conditions (rain, slush or snow) from penetrating.
This multi-layer design ensures that even in freezing or wet conditions your feet stay dry, insulated, and comfortable: ideal for winter hikes, snow, commutes or outdoor work.

Are waterproof socks necessary in winter?

Yes! Waterproof socks can be a very important part of your winter accessory lineup for many activities. In wintery conditions, snow, slush or ice can easily seep into ordinary socks or boots and soak your feet, leading to cold, discomfort and even health risks. Waterproof socks prevent external moisture from entering, keeping your feet dry and insulated. Moreover, waterproof socks with a breathable membrane allow internal moisture, like perspiration, to escape preventing dampness inside the sock. That helps avoid the common problem of cold, clammy feet caused by trapped sweat or damp insulation. For winter walking, hiking, commuting, or working outdoors, waterproof socks can make the difference between uncomfortable, cold feet and staying warm, dry and focused.

How do I prevent blisters in cold socks?

Preventing blisters when wearing cold-weather socks involves managing moisture, friction and fit. Waterproof socks help by keeping external wetness out, which is important because wet skin increases the risk of skin friction and blisters. Inside, the merino wool or moisture-wicking liner draws sweat away from the skin and into the sock’s fabric, helping keep the skin dry and friction-free. But waterproof socks alone aren’t enough: you also need a good fit, socks that are too loose can bunch up and rub, socks that are too tight can create pressure points. A snug but comfortable fit, combined with moisture management, is key to reducing blister risk.
