What are merino liner gloves used for?
Merino liner gloves are designed as a lightweight thermal base layer for your hands, giving you added warmth without bulk. Sealskinz merino liners are made with very fine merino wool blended with a little elastane to ensure stretch, comfort, and moisture control. They’re ideal for slipping under heavier gloves for extra insulation during cold weather, or wearing on their own during mild conditions when you don’t need full waterproof protection.
Are merino gloves warm and breathable?
Yes! Merino liner gloves offer an excellent balance of warmth and breathability. Merino wool naturally traps heat in its fibres and holds air, which provides insulation even when temperatures drop. At the same time, merino can absorb moisture (like sweat) and wick it away from the skin, helping to prevent clamminess and keeping hands feeling dry. Because these gloves are thin, they allow your skin to breathe much better than bulkier insulated gloves, reducing overheating when you’re active.
Can liner gloves be worn under other gloves?
Absolutely! that’s one of their key uses. Sealskinz merino liners are close-fitting and flexible, meaning they slide comfortably under waterproof or heavier insulated gloves without creating uncomfortable bulk. When layered, they add thermal insulation at the base layer, preserving dexterity in the outer glove by trapping internal warmth. On warmer days or when conditions aren’t as harsh, you can also wear them on their own for light warmth and softness.
